Are you dreaming about (or better still, planning) a tropical island getaway? Bra-fitter, Peta, escaped to the gorgeous Cook Islands earlier this year. Here, she shares some of the things she suggests you pack when you’re heading for sun and sand.
A double duty swimsuit
Save room in your suitcase and take a swimsuit that doubles as a top! I recently purchased the gorgeous Monica Balcony swimsuit in Seersucker. I love its vintage vibes and oh, those straps! Best of all, I can throw it on with some shorts or a skirt, or wear it on its own poolside.
A supportive bikini swim top
Unfortunately, I burn very quickly! So, when out snorkelling on the reef I need to wear a rashie or sun protective top. I find it best to wear a bikini top underneath, as this provides support and doesn’t have the additional weight of a tankini or swimsuit.
My Beach Waves bikini top got a great work out in the Cooks. The electric blue hue is stunning!
The just-in-case bikini bottoms
I’ve found perimenopause is making things a tad unpredictable, including when my period decides to start! I didn’t want to miss an opportunity to get out on the reef, so I made sure I packed my Love Luna Period Full Briefs in Black. I love the high waisted style and smoothness of these so much that I even wear them when it’s not that time of the month! A bikini style and a version for tweens and teens are also available.
A bra that let’s you vent in a good way!
It’s going to be hot and that makes it likely that you are going to sweat! Aim to take a bra made of fabric, perhaps featuring a stretch lace, or tulle mesh. When packing, line up your tops and dresses. Observe the necklines, whether they are sleeveless or not and whether there is any cut-in at the back of the shoulders. Choose two or three bras to take, making sure that you’ve got one that will suit each item of clothing.
For plunge necklines, try Ana or Matilda. The latter features a J-hook which allows her to do double duty with racerback tops. Other great options include Perla, Clara and my personal favourite for my desired shape, Montara. If you need a smooth finish, try a T-shirt bra made of fabric, like Smooth, or a spacer foam, like Sophia or Virginia.
When the day ends, jump into the shower with your bra on and gently wash it with our Lingerie wash. Hang her up to dry and she’ll be ready to join you on another day of tropical adventure!
TIP: Book in for an Island Night to experience the Cook Island culture featuring traditional music, dance and a feast. Cook Islanders prefer people not to flash too much skin. It's fine to wear your fabulous plunge bikini on the beach or in the pool. Beyond these places, pop a sarong, kaftan, or dress over your swimmers.
